Blue Owl Staircase

New York, New York

The signature staircase for Blue Owl Capital Group is located in their Park Avenue office in Midtown, Manhattan. The stair form was designed to perceive the stair as thin as possible by tapering the cross-section towards the edges of the profile. The underside surface created by the form is doubly curved requiring custom fabricated glass fiber composite finish panels. The central cable ring acts as the interior guard plate of the stair and it was designed with a tensioning spring base to maintain tautness in the cables when the stair or building floors move as a result of human interaction. A steel plate box stringer system was designed in close collaboration with fabricator Caliper Studio to achieve a stiff central stringer following the curve of the stair and was fabricated entirely with straight plate pieces.
